The Winterset Police Department is now hiring for the position of Police Officer. We are seeking a motivated, community, service, and team-oriented individual to fill this role. The Winterset Police Department prides ourselves on our police work and high-level of community involvement.

 Winterset, IA, is a growing community that is located 30 minutes southwest of Des Moines, IA with approximately 5,353 residents. Winterset is home to the famous Bridges of Madison County while also having several parks, historic downtown square, local food and beverage establishments and a fantastic school district!

 Certified Officers will not be required to complete the physical fitness test or the P.O.S.T. test. 

Non-Certified candidates will have a testing date scheduled for a date, to be determined. 

            **Any passing physical agility and/or P.O.S.T. tests in the past 12 months will be accepted.

Starting Salary: $62,337 – $78,857 Annually - DOQ

 Benefits: IPERS, Excellent Health Insurance (Family Health plan is $106/month) and short term disability. Paid Vacation, Comp bank, paid holidays, 2 personal days, shift differential, take home vehicles (within city limits), and a 45-minute living radius

 Work Schedule: 12-hour shifts (4 on; 4 off; 3 on; 3 off)

Officers can expect to work 7 out of 14 days per two week pay period, however; may be expected to work nights, holidays, weekends or overtime as necessary.

The City of Winterset is currently seeking applicants to fill a vacancy on the Board of Adjustment.  The Board shall have the following powers:

1. To hear and decide appeals where it is alleged there is error in any order, requirement, decision, or determination made by an administrative official in the enforcement of this Chapter or any supplement or amendment.

2. To hear and decide special exceptions use to the terms of this Chapter upon which the Board is required to pass under this Chapter.

3. To authorize upon appeal in specific cases such variance from the terms of this Chapter as will not be contrary to the public interest, where  owing to special conditions, a literal enforcement of the provisions of the Chapter will result in practical difficulty and unnecessary hardship to the applicant so that the spirit of the Chapter shall be observed and substantial justice done.

Such powers are granted to the Board per the Winterset Municipal Code Section 4.12093

Meetings are held on the first Thursday of each month at 8:30 AM at City Hall.
