Building & Zoning Department
The City of Winterset has adopted and enforced model building codes that regulate the construction of residential and commercial building projects within the corporate limits of the City. Most projects will require a permit to be issued prior to the commencement of the project and are subject to an inspection process throughout the project as well.

Fire Department
The Winterset Fire Department was established in 1872. We are proud to preserve the rich history and traditions of 147 years of service. We are currently staffed with 20 volunteers.

Police Department
The Winterset Police Department consists of 8 full-time officers and 3 part-time officers providing 24-hour coverage to the City of Winterset.

Street Department
Street Department employees are most known for all of the work they do during snow events. In addition to plowing all of the city's streets and alleys, the street department employees plow and haul away all of the snow from around the famous downtown square around the Madison County Courthouse.

Sewer Department
The wastewater treatment plant is an Iowa Grade II, two-stage trickling filter (bio tower) plant, including pretreatment, primary clarification, solids contact tank, final clarification, UV disinfection, and two-stage aerobic digestion.
