The Winterset Cemetery is located in the southeast part of the city. It can accommodate the in-ground burial of vaulted caskets and sealed cremation urns. A columbarium is also available for cremated remains.
The original plot was purchased by early pioneers in 1850 for $20. Many sections have been added throughout the years with the current number of burials exceeding 9,200. Originally, it was known as the Rock City Cemetery based on Winterset's nickname due to the amount of limestone here. The grounds contain an impressive WWI memorial. Veterans are honored with a marker at each grave and an Avenues of Flags is on display each Memorial Day weekend.
Hours for visitation are from 8 AM to Sundown, daily.
The Winterset Cemetery is located at 502 S 4th Street, Winterset, IA 50273.
